Detangle from the ends and work gradually upwards, supporting the lengths with one hand. When wearing extensions, avoid sudden movements around the attachment areas.
How should permanent extensions be brushed?
Support the lengths with one hand and start at the ends, progressively working through knots before moving upwards. Around micro rings, tape-ins, keratin bonds or weft bases, guide the brush carefully without catching or pulling directly on the attachments.
What about clip-in extensions?
You can detangle them after removal, either laying them down or supporting them from the base. This makes it easier to control tension and work through the lengths without stressing the clips or stitching.
Why start from the ends?
Starting at the roots drags knots through the full length and increases tension. Working from the bottom upwards lets you release smaller sections at a time, both on natural hair and on extensions.
