I’m Emanuele Scarciglia, a qualified hairdresser and founder of VELVET Hair & Beauty.
VELVET was founded in Lecce, in Salento, from my direct experience working with human hair extensions and hair-integration systems.
My professional training includes a three-year hairdressing programme followed by further academy training. I have worked in the industry since I was 16, and over time I have focused my work on hair extensions, specialising in micro-ring, keratin bond, tape-in, weft and clip-in systems, as well as human hair toppers and wigs.
My approach to hair extensions
For me, choosing an extension system does not mean starting with the best-known method or the highest number of grams. The assessment should consider the natural base, hair density, desired result, increase in length, weight distribution, colour, texture and, above all, how the system will be managed over time.
The same method can work extremely well for one person and make little sense for another. That is why, in technical work, I prefer to explain the limitations of a system as clearly as its advantages.
Why I created VELVET
VELVET was created from the need to make aspects of the extension world clearer and more transparent, instead of reducing them to a handful of marketing terms. Remy, Double Drawn, weight, density, attachment structure, maintenance and reuse are not decorative labels: they affect how the product behaves and the final result.
I select different systems for the VELVET catalogue because I do not believe there is one extension method that suits everyone. The goal is to provide technical information that is clear enough to support an informed choice, both for people who wear extensions and for the professionals who work with them.

VELVET Journal
In the VELVET Journal, I write about the questions I encounter most often in my work with extensions: choosing the right method, weight, longevity, maintenance, washing, colour, texture, attachment care and the differences between systems.
The articles are designed to distinguish what genuinely depends on the hair, the method and the technique from the absolute rules that are repeated online even when they are not technically accurate.
