Short answer: tape-in extensions use a flat base with professional adhesive to connect added hair to natural hair. The system distributes the material over a wider surface than a single small strand and is normally repositioned as the hair grows.
“Tape” refers to adhesive, but it does not necessarily describe only one extension shape: there are traditional small tabs and wider structures built around the same fastening principle.
How is tape attached?
With traditional systems, thin sections of natural hair are placed between adhesive elements compatible with the system. Even pressure allows the tabs to adhere and create a flat base.
In a construction such as VELVET Tape XL, the adhesive principle is instead applied to a one-piece weft with an INJECT scalp-effect TPU base. The structure is available in several weights, so quantity and surface area should be considered together.
Why do products applied at the root matter?
Oils, masks and very rich conditioners can interfere with some adhesives when applied directly around the attachment area. This does not mean the lengths should go without conditioning; it simply means separating the needs of the ends from those of the adhesive base.

What happens with regrowth?
As the natural hair grows, the adhesive base gradually moves farther from the scalp. At maintenance, the system is professionally removed, cleaned and prepared with new adhesive when the condition of the hair and the structure allows it to be reused.

Are tape-ins suitable for everyone?
No. A flat base can be very discreet, but it must be positioned where the natural hair can support and conceal it. A very oily scalp, frequent root products, insufficient density or particular styling needs may make another method more suitable.
