Short answer: micro-ring extensions are attached to natural hair using small rings that are mechanically closed with a professional tool. The connection does not require a glue or keratin adhesive point and can be reopened during maintenance to reposition the system.
“Micro-ring”, however, describes the fastening principle rather than a single construction. Rings can be used with individual strands or with purpose-designed weft structures.
What keeps the extension in place?
Controlled pressure from the ring holds the natural hair section and the extension element together. Ring size, the amount of hair inserted, position and tension therefore need to be proportionate.
A micro-ring closed too tightly, applied to a section that is too small or placed where the natural hair cannot conceal it does not become “more secure”; it simply becomes a poorly designed application.
How does a micro-ring weft work?
With a weft system, the weight is not organised as many independent strands. VELVET Bridge XL, for example, uses a thin GENIUS base with pre-perforated TPU and micro-rings distributed along the structure. The weft is available in different weights so quantity and result can be adapted.
There is also VELVET Bridge Double Weft, built with smaller modules. Both use micro-rings, but the material is distributed differently: this is why the method name alone does not describe the whole application.
How does maintenance work?
As natural hair grows, the attachments gradually move farther from the scalp. With repositionable systems, the rings can be reopened, the system moved back to the correct position and secured again when the condition of both the hair and the extension allows it.

Are micro-rings suitable for everyone?
No. The natural base needs to be able to support the weight and conceal the attachments. Very fine hair, low-density areas or certain scalp conditions require a more cautious assessment. The absence of glue does not automatically make the method suitable for every head.
