Dry hair after summer: extensions or not?

|Emanuele Scarciglia

Short answer: yes, extensions can also be applied after summer, but first you need to understand whether the hair is simply dry or genuinely fragile and compromised.

Sun, sea water, chlorine, frequent washing and heat can leave the lengths looking duller, rougher and more difficult to manage. In September, the temptation to cover everything by adding fifty centimetres of hair is understandable. It is not always the right first step.

Dryness and fragility are not the same thing

Dry hair may mainly need a more balanced routine, less heat and better protection through the lengths.

If, on the other hand, the hair breaks easily, has noticeably thinned areas or cannot safely support tension, it is better to assess its condition before choosing a permanent extension system.

Extensions add hair. They do not repair the natural hair.

Before extensions: reset the lengths

After the sea and the pool, it can help to bring the hair back to a more manageable condition: cleanse it thoroughly, remove build-up, detangle without pulling and restore softness through the lengths.

A mask such as VELVET Keratin Intensive Rescue Hair Mask can be added to the routine on the lengths as needed, without turning the roots into an oil-and-silicone tasting session.

When do extensions become an interesting option?

When the natural base is in suitable condition, extensions can quickly restore density, length and continuity through the ends, especially when summer has made an already fine structure look even thinner.

The project, however, should follow the hair's actual density rather than trying to compensate for it with excessive quantities.

In short

Dry hair after summer does not automatically mean giving up on extensions. It means approaching them with judgement.

First assess the natural base. Then choose the weight, method and quantity. The most luxurious result is still the one that looks as though it has always belonged to the hair.
